RAM (Randcom Access Memory)
The RAM is the working memory of computers and it is the part of the computer where the operating system components, computer programs and other widely used data are stored so that they can be accessed quickly.
In general, the more RAM your computer has, the faster and more efficiently it runs. SO-DIMM vs. DIMM RAM
In short, SO-DIMM memory for laptops and DIMM memory for desktops. However, there are some exceptions, for example NUC computers using SO-DIMM.
DDR MEMORY
New memory modules are constantly being developed, and unfortunately they are not backwards compatible. The newest type of memory is DDR4. However, many computers still use the old DDR3 memory.
ECC RAM
ECC stands for Error Correcting Code. Memory with this technology is more stable than memory without it. The reason for this is, as the name suggests, that it finds and repairs even the smallest errors that may occur.
The disadvantage of using memory with ECC is that it works a little slower, as the functionality always requires troubleshooting and optimization. However, studies show that in practice it is only a few parts of one percent and up to 1-2 percent in extreme cases. In addition, not all processors support this type of memory. So make sure before you buy anything. For the time being, only the best processors, for example, powerful workstations that support ECC memory.
As a general rule, due to the stability advantages of ECC memory, servers always use ECC memory.
