What does sustainability reporting mean to me
ESG work, Scope 3 focus, CO2e emissions.
ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance
ESG reporting
ESG is a way to structure the work with sustainability.
ESG covers respectively environment and climate, social conditions and business behaviour.
(E)nvironment
Environmental and climate conditions, e.g. CO2 emissions, climate change and adaptation, pollution, water and marine resources, biodiversity, ecosystems, and circular economy.
(S)ocial
Social conditions, e.g. working conditions for your own workforce and workers in your value chain, affected communities, consumers and end users.
(G)overnance
Matters within corporate conduct, e.g. corporate culture, protection of whistleblowers, anti-corruption or political engagement.
The Sustainability Reporting Act
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires large companies to report specific information on ESG.
Many small and medium-sized companies are not covered by legal requirements for sustainability reporting; but the work with sustainability is relevant for most people, as everyone can be met with expectations about documentation of work with sustainability.
Companies (e.g. bank or investor) that are covered by the Sustainability Reporting Act will be able to make demands for ESG information from their business partners. You will therefore be able to experience that your business partners request data on ESG.
Scope 3 covers 75-95% of a company's total emissions
Scopes
Scope 1: Covers direct emissions from the company and includes mobile and stationary fuel, emissions from industrial processes and fugitive emissions. These emissions are related to buildings, vehicles and stationary engines operated by the company.
Scope 2: These are indirect emissions from the purchase of energy generated outside the reporting company's operations, such as electricity, heat, cooling and steam. These are areas that the company consumes and can control, but does not own and produce itself.
Scope 3: This area includes indirect emissions divided into 15 categories. Scope 3 will probably cover 75-95% of the company's total emissions. The 15 categories in scope 3 aim to provide companies with a systematic framework for measuring, managing and reducing emissions across the value chain. The categories are split to be mutually exclusive, which will ensure that double counting of Scope 3 emissions is avoided for each company. Scope 3 emissions are associated with both upstream and downstream activities in the value chain.
Scope 3 contains 15 categories
- Purchase of goods and services
- Capital gains
- Fuel and energy-related activities
- Upstream transport and distribution
- Garbage
- Business trip
- Employee commuting
- Upstream leased assets
- Downstream transport and distribution
- Processing of sold products
- Use of sold products
- Final processing of sold products
- Downstream leased assets
- Franchising
- Investments
Scope 1, 2 og 3
Ifølge emissionsberegningsmetoden Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GhG Protocol) bør virksomheder opdele deres emissioner i tre områder (scopes).
Climate imprint is calculated by how much CO2e is emitted
CO2e stands for CO2 equivalents and covers several types of greenhouse gases.
CO2e is a common measurement unit for greenhouse gas pollution that takes into account the power of the various greenhouse gases to contribute to global warming (global warming potential, GWP).
There is a big difference in the effect of the 3 primary greenhouse gases CO2 (carbon dioxide), CH4 (methane) and N2O (laughing gas). Methane and nitrous oxide have a significantly stronger greenhouse effect than CO2, but are found in smaller quantities in the atmosphere.
CO2 is vital but also deadly
CO2 (carbon dioxide) occurs naturally in the earth's atmosphere, where it is vital for the earth's natural ecosystem. We humans emit CO2 (around 1kg per day) when we breathe, which plants and trees absorb to grow. They then secrete O2 (oxygen), which we humans use - and then the process starts all over again.
Normally, the atmosphere contains approx. 0.04% CO2 (approx. 380 ppm - parts per million - i.e. number of CO2 molecules among air molecules), and the gas is formed naturally during the breakdown of organic material via combustion, fermentation and digestion. CO2 is used today, for example, for cooling, packaging, beverages, welding, firefighting.
Levels of >10% CO2 in the air can lead to unconsciousness and death without warning.
What does Carbon Footprint (CO2e footprint) mean?
Greenhouse gases are emitted via the production and consumption of goods and services. Carbon Footprint is a term that covers a person's or a company's emission of greenhouse gases (CO2e).
Carbon Footprint is typically calculated in tonnes and includes all human activity that results in the release of CO2e.
What do we do with the old computers?
Old computers come into storage and are locked in our Safe Area.
From the Safe Area, the computers are Blancco data erased with documentation.
The computers are now ready for cleaning and functionality checks, as well as possibly renewing parts.
After reviewing the product it is evaluated - is there a Grade A / B / C machine etc.
The machine is now ready to go into a new box and continue the further process on its way out to a new user.
Documentation for secure data deletion
When you send your company's used IT equipment to us, you get documentation that all data is deleted in a certified process and in accordance with GDPR regulations and international standards.
Patented deletion method from Blancco
We use a patented deletion method from Blancco, a leading manufacturer of data deletion software. The method ensures that all data on the hard drive is permanently deleted and at the same time generates a certified deletion report as proof that the deletion has been carried out correctly.
ISO 9001 & 27001 certified
We are ISO 9001 and 27001 certified, which means that we have control over data security, processes and deliver reliable quality. In addition, we are obliged to continuously monitor and to constantly improve our work processes.
