What is an optical drive
Almost all computers used or sold today are equipped with an optical drive. These drives use the computer's lasers to read or write data to CDs or DVDs that provide a removable storage media system for the computer. Optical drives have been widely used since the 1990s. They have a rich history and have been constantly refined and improved. The starting point for the optical drive or more detailed data storage system began with the introduction of the Sony and Phillips compact disc. However, it was not until the early 1990s that new storage devices, called CD-ROM drives, became more affordable to the average consumer.
